Report: Blackhawks Want Smid From Oilers
EDMONTON, Alberta (CBS) -- A published report says the Blackhawks are still hoping to acquire defenseman Ladislav Smid from the Edmonton Oilers.
But the Montreal Gazette reports the Oilers aren't about to give up Smid easily. They spent five years developing Smid after winning him in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks, the newspaper reported.
The Oilers want the Blackhawks to give up one of their top prospects in exchange, the Montreal Gazette reported. Specifically, they want Nick Leddy, who was traded from the Minnesota Wild to the Blackhawks last season, the newspaper reported.
Leddy was sent to the Blackhawks in exchange for Cam Barker, and has been shuttled between Chicago and the farm club in Rockford. He also made the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships.
