Blackhawks Name Bergevin Assistant GM, Extend Scotty Bowman's Contract
CHICAGO (CBS) The Chicago Blackhawks have promoted Marc Bergevin to the position of assistant general manager, along with three other front office moves, the team announced on Wednesday.
Bergevin will replace Kevin Cheveldayoff, who accepted the general manager position with the new Winnipeg franchise.
Norm Maciver was promoted to the team's Director of Player Personnel and Kyle Davidson to Hockey Administration Coordinator.
"As an organization we're fortunate to have the depth of talent available that allows us to promote from within," Vice-President/General Manager Stan Bowman said in a statement. "Marc and Norm have combined for more than 40 years of NHL experience, as players, behind the bench and in the front office."
The Blackhawks also extended the contract of Scotty Bowman, the team's Senior Advisor of Hockey Operations.
Bergevin, formerly the director of player personnel, has held various positions with the Blackhawks organization over the last six years. He was an assistant coach under Joel Quenneville during the 2008-09 season. The Montreal native was drafted by the Blackhawks in the third round, 58th overall pick, of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. In 1,191 career games as a defenseman, Bergevin recorded 36 goals and 145 assists.
Maciver served as an Assistant Coach with the Boston Bruins from 2003-06, and is in his fourth season with the Blackhawks.
Bowman has been a member of 12 Stanley Cup winning teams since 1973, which includes an NHL record nine as a head coach. He is the NHL's all-time leader with 1,224 regular-season wins and 223 postseason victories. He is the father of Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman.
