Report: Blackhawks' Haviland Doesn't Get Winnipeg Job
(CBS) The new Winnipeg franchise has hired their new head coach, and it isn't Blackhawks assistant coach Mike Haviland.
According to the Toronto Sun, Claude Noel, coach of the Manitoba Moose, will got the job over Haviland.
The 54-year-old Noel led the Moose, Winnipeg's IHL/AHL team, to a 43-30-1-6 record, good for 93 points and third spot in the North Division standings last season.
Haviland has spent the last three seasons as a Blackhawks assistant coach. Prior to that he was the head coach of the organization's American Hockey League affiliates in Norfolk (2005-07) and Rockford (2007-08).
Winnipeg recently hired Kevin Cheveldayoff - previously Blackhawks assistant general manager - as their new general manager.
