Report: Blackhawks Assistant GM Offered Winnipeg Job
CHICAGO (CBS) According to report by the Winnipeg Free Press, the city's new NHL franchise has offered the general manager position to Chicago Blackhawks assistant GM Kevin Cheveldayoff.
For the last two years, Cheveldayoff has served as the Blackhawks' assistant GM and senior director of hockey operations and helped build the 2010 Stanley Cup Championship team.
True North, the new owner of the franchise, informed Atlanta GM Rick Dudley on Saturday that they would not be retaining his services in Winnipeg. The new paper didn't report whether or not Cheveldayoff had accepted the job.
On March 31, True North officially purchased the Atlanta Thrashers with the intention of moving the team to Winnipeg. The city last had an NHL franchise in 1996, before the team relocated to Phoenix, Arizona and became the Phoenix Coyotes.
