Blackhawks Acquire Campoli From Ottawa
The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired defenseman Chris Campoli from the Ottawa Senators, the team has confirmed.
The Blackhawks acquired Campoli and a conditional 7th round pick for prospect Ryan Potulny and a conditional 2nd round pick.
"I'm pretty excited to be going to the Chicago Blackhawks," Campoli said on Canada's TSN. "My game is skating, moving the puck and chipping it in on the on the offensive side. It looks like a good fit [in Chicago] where I'll be able to do that."
The 26-year old Campoli has three goals, 11 assists, a -3 rating and 34 penalty minutes on the season. A former 7th round pick, Campoli will become an unrestricted free agent after the season. He'll have a pro-rated $1.4 million cap hit for the Blackhawks.
Campoli is known as a good penalty killing defenseman, which was a need for the Blackhawks. He'll more than likely work in as a No. 5 or 6 defenseman and log around 10-15 minutes of ice-time per game.
Potulny is a former 3rd round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers (87th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He signed with the Blackhawks as a free agent in September of 2009. In three games with the Blackhawks this season, Potulny was a -1 and didn't register a goal or assist.
Campoli won't play tonight when the Blackhawks take on the Minnesota Wild.
