Report: Big Ten's Playoff Plan May Not Gain Approval
(CBS) As those in charge of college football continue to meet in Dallas to discuss the fate of the BCS, it appears the Big Ten's proposed playoff plan may not fly among the rest of the college football teams.
According to a report from the Chicago Tribune, the Big Ten's plan has been to remove the top four teams from the bowl pool and have the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds host semifinal games.
Sources tell the newspaper, however, they are skeptical that leagues such as the Southeatern Conference would OK the potential for prime-time December games in places such as Columbus, Ann Arbor or Madison, Wis.
The Tribune also report that college football's TV partners appear to favor having bowls host the semifinal games, unlike the plan proposed by the Big Ten. If the top four teams are removed from the bowl pool, it would break with tradition and devalue the Rose, Fiesta, Sugar and Orange Bowls.
