Report: Bears Request Permission To Interview Packers OC Clements
(WSCR) As Bears general manager Phil Emery begins his search to find Lovie Smith's replacement, he'll do so by interviewing Packers offensive coordinator Tom Clements.
According to a report, the Bears have requested permission from the Packers to interview Clements for the open position. The NFL mandates all teams allow their assistant coaches to interview for head coaching positions.
Clements, who is in his first year as the team's coordinator after moving up from quarterbacks coach, won a national title as Notre Dame's quarterback in 1973 and was the CFL MVP in 1987.
Clements joined the Packers in 2006.
The Bears also reached out to Clements when looking for an offensive coordinator in 2010. The Packers rejected the Bears' request to interview him, though, and the Bears ultimately hired Mike Martz.
