Report: Bears Hosted Josh Freeman For Visit
(CBS) The Bears hosted free agent quarterback Josh Freeman for a visit Monday, according to CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora.
Chicago has been weighing its backup quarterback options since Josh McCown left to take a hefty pay raise to become the starter in Tampa. The 29-year-old Jordan Palmer is currently the Bears' No. 2 guy behind Jay Cutler, but he only has thrown 15 passes in his four-year NFL career, none of which came last season for Chicago.
Freeman had a rocky 2013 season in which he was released in Tampa Bay after poor play and disputes with coach Greg Schiano. He was signed by the Vikings after playing in three games for the Bucs, but he played in just one game in Minnesota. All told, Freeman threw for 761 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions while recording a quarterback rating of 52.6.
It's possible the Bears could choose to address the backup quarterback position in the draft. Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch is set to work out for Chicago on April 18.
