Bears Hire Chris Harris As Defensive Assistant
(CBS) -- Just two days after announcing his retirement as a player, former Bears safety Chris Harris has been hired by the team as a defensive quality control coach.
Harris was originally drafted by the Bears in sixth round of the 2005 NFL Draft and spent about half of his career in Chicago. After two strong seasons with the Bears, he was dealt to Carolina in 2007 where he spent three years. The Panthers dealt him back to the Bears in 2010 and Harris went on to have an All-Pro season that year. His play declined in 2011, however, and the Bears cut him in October of that season.
Harris spent the rest of 2011 with the Lions and a portion of the 2012 season with Jacksonville Jaguars. He officially announced his retirement Saturday.
Also joining the Bears' coaching staff are Sean Desai, defensive quality control, and Dwayne Stukes, assistant special teams, the team announced in a news release.
Desai joins the Bears after spending one season as the running backs/special teams coach at Boston College.
Stukes served on Tampa Bay's coaching staff for six seasons (2006-11), the last as the Buccaneers special teams coordinator.
