Report: Bears Assistant Derius Swinton Leaving For Job With 49ers
(CBS) The 49ers and new coach Chip Kelly are hiring Bears assistant special teams coach Derius Swinton to be their special teams coordinator, the Sacramento Bee reported.
Swinton had been with the Bears for one season, coming to Chicago to serve on coach John Fox's staff after working for him in Denver previously. Swinton has also worked for the Chiefs and Rams previously.
The Bears ranked 12th in cumulative special teams rankings that are compiled annually by the Dallas Mornings News' Rick Gosselin.
Swinton is the second Bears assistant to leave this week, as offensive assistant Bo Hardegree left to be the quarterbacks coach for the Miami Dolphins, who hired former Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase as their new coach recently.
Also this week, the Bears blocked outside linebackers coach Clint Hurtt from joining Gase as the Dolphins' defensive line coach, Sports Illustrated reported. Hurtt reportedly has a year left on his contract, and that move wouldn't have been a direct promotion.
The Bears are still searching for a quarterbacks coach after promoting Dowell Loggains to be their offensive coordinator.
