Rangers Claim Rios Off Waivers
(CBS) According to a report from 670 The Score contributor Ken Rosenthal, White Sox outfielder Alex Rios has been claimed off waivers.
The Texas Rangers, who were reportedly interested in Rios before the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline, were the claiming team.
Because Rios, owed $13 million next season with a $13.5 million club option for 2015, is on revocable waivers, the White Sox now have 48 hours to work out a trade or pull him back off waivers.
The White Sox can also let the claiming team have him for nothing, in an effort to dump the remaining salary.
Ironically, Rios came to the White Sox via a similar waiver claim in 2009.
