Rep. Jackson Released From Mayo Clinic
WASHINGTON (CBS) -- U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) has been released from the Mayo Clinic.
Jackson's office spokesman Rick Bryant confirmed to CBS 2 that Jackson is at home with his wife, Ald. Sandi Jackson (7th), and their children in Washington, D.C.
"My husband is convalescing with his family," Ald. Sandi Jackson said in a written statement Friday. "He will not return to work until released from doctor's care. Jesse and I are thankful for the heartfelt prayers and kind thoughts from so many for our family."
Jackson has been on medical leave since June 10. The reasons for his absence were not revealed until last month, when the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., confirmed that he was there being treated for Bipolar II depression and a gastrointestinal ailment.
Jackson's aides had initially said his absence was due to "exhaustion," then later explained he was suffering unspecified "physical and emotional ailments."
About a month before the Mayo Clinic statement, his office said he was suffering an unspecified "mood disorder."
It was not immediately learned when exactly Jackson was released from the clinic.
No timetable has been provided for Jackson's return to Congress or for when he will resume campaigning for re-election.
