Rep. Dold Focuses On Bipartisanship As He Fights To Keep Seat
CHICAGO (CBS) -- With Illinois Democrats redrawing his district, U.S. Rep. Robert Dold (R-Ill.) is finding it vital to point to his bipartisanship as he runs for re-election.
As WBBM Newsradio Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports, the New York Times says the newly-redrawn 10th Congressional District in the northern suburbs is the most Democratic one to have a Republican congressman, and the voters are famously independent.
But the freshman Dold knows he has to stress his own independence if he hopes to be reelected.
"You look at the environment, the Train Act. You look at women's health issues. You look at a number, a host of different things that we have voted against our party on – whether it be education, whether it be gun control, whether it be some of those other things that I have taken a stance that would have been contrary to the leadership," Dold said. "We're going to continue to do that."
Dold is up against Democrat Brad Schneider in the 10th District contest.
