Red Target Bullseye May Shine From Old Carson's Building
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A red bullseye might soon grace the historic Louis Sullivan building on State Street that once housed the Carson Pirie Scott flagship store.

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Nancy Harty reports, the red bullseye would be visible through the windows at State and Madison streets, as part of a proposal before the Permit Review Committee and the Chicago Landmarks Commission, according to the Chicago Tribune. A meeting to discuss the signs is planned for later Thursday.
Target also wants to add red awnings to the building.
The discount retailer's ideas are getting a thumbs up from preservationists, the Tribune reported.
A Target spokeswoman tells the Tribune the store is working to blend in and is honored to be part of the preservation of a Chicago treasure.
The building now known as the Sullivan Center was constructed in 1899 with distinctive cast iron decoration. It is a landmark at the national and city level.
Carson Pirie Scott closed its store in the building in 2007.
After the Carson's store closed, several plans to fill the space fell through. Rumored tenants including Whole Foods, now-defunct clothing chain Steve & Barry's and Canyon Ranch resorts, never materialized.
Building owner Joseph Freed & Associates announced in 2008 that upscale grocer Fox & Obel would open a 25,000-square-foot store in the building, but that fell through, too. Australian surf shop Billabong International also dropped plans to open a three-level store in the building.
The Target store planned for the building, which was officially announced in February, will take up about 125,000 square feet. It will be called CityTarget, which will be the name applied to small-format Target stores across the country.
The store will offer fresh food, apartment supplies, on-trend fashions and designer collections. It is set to open in 2012.
