Rapist Gets 28 Years After Breaking Into Victim's Home
WHEATON, Ill. (STMW) -- A West Chicago man was sentenced to 28 years in prison on Tuesday after pleading guilty but mentally ill in the 2008 sexual assault of a woman in her west suburban home.
Salvador Alvarado, 40, pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony, a release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's office said.
On Sept. 21, 2008, at 10:30 p.m., Alvarado broke into his victim's home and sexually assaulted her. An investigation by police led authorities to Alvarado who was arrested and charged with the crime on Oct. 9, 2008. Alvarado has been in custody since his arrest.
"A person's home is their sanctuary," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in the release. "On September 21, 2008, Mr. Alvarado violated his victim's sanctuary in a most horrific way. He took what he wanted, caring nothing about his victim or society as a whole. All he cared about was himself."
Alvarado will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
