Ramirez Will Rehab in Single-A
The Cubs announced Thursday that third baseman Aramis Ramirez will begin a rehab stint in Single-A Peoria on Saturday. Ramirez has been fighting a bruised right thumb and is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday the 23rd.
Manager Lou Piniella commented on the slugger's status Tuesday saying, "If he's going to come off [the DL] in the two-week time frame, maybe he could go to Peoria for a couple days or so, but I don't think two weeks is all that long where you need an extended rehab of any kind."
Ramirez has stuggled this season hitting only .168 with 5 home runs and 22 RBI in 179 at bats.
