Rain, Possible Thunderstorms Coming This Afternoon
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Storms may be coming to some parts of the Chicago area Tuesday afternoon, but it will all be worth it when the temperature jumps to 85 degrees on Wednesday.
CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros reports the temperature as of 11:20 a.m. was 60 degrees at Midway International Airport, 61 at O'Hare, and 54 at Waukegan, under overcast skies.
Meanwhile, a storm system was producing heavy rain and thunderclaps in downstate Illinois and as far east as Bloomington, Ind. The storm was producing light rain as far north as Kankakee and Joliet, and will edge closer to the Chicago area as the afternoon goes on.
A low-pressure system over the Upper Peninsula of Michigan has been keeping the rain away so far, but as a warm front advances from the south, the chance of rain will keep increasing.
The heaviest rain and storm activity is expected south of Interstate 80. Still, Glaros advises keeping your umbrella handy wherever you go. The rain chance is officially 30 percent.
Meanwhile, the temperature will grow warmer over the course of the day, topping out at 74 in some areas.
But on Wednesday, the warm front will advance to northern Wisconsin, bringing warm temperatures and at least some sunshine for all.
The high for Wednesday is 85, and skies will be mostly dry.
But look for stormy weather for the rest of the week afterward. The high for Thursday is 82, Friday 78, and Saturday 72, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms each day. The high for Sunday is 66, and Monday 67.
