Raffi Torres Suspended 25 Games
(CBS) Phoenix Coyotes forward Raffi Torres has been suspended 25 games for his hit Tuesday night on Marian Hossa that resulted in the Blackhawks winger getting carried off the ice on a stretcher.
NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan made the announcement Saturday morning, saying Torres violated three rules: interference, charging and an intentional hit to the head.
After looking at game video, Shanahan says it is clear Torres "sees Hossa is no longer in possession of the puck because because Torres takes a one-handed swipe at it with his stick. This is a violation of three NHL rules."
The suspension will knock Torres out of the rest of the playoffs, no matter how far the Coyotes go.
