Radogno Keeps Senate Leadership Spot In Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — State Sen. Christine Radogno is keeping her spot as the Illinois Senate's GOP leader for at least two more years.
Republicans voted to keep Radogno in that position during a closed-door meeting in Springfield on Wednesday evening.
The Lemont Republican fended off a challenge by Sen. Kylie McCarter of Lebanon. He's a businessman who launched a challenge for the leadership post after Democrats secured a 40-seat supermajority during the Nov. 6 election.
Radogno has served in the Illinois Senate since 1997 and has been the GOP leader for four years.
The legislature's other three leaders didn't face any competition. House Speaker Michael Madigan retained his post, as did Senate President John Cullerton and House Minority Leader Tom Cross.
