Quinn Warns Lawmakers There Will Be Consequences For Pension Failure
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Governor Pat Quinn is making vague threats to lawmakers ahead of Tuesday's deadline for pension reforms, reports WBBM's Nancy Harty.
The Governor says he gave a bipartisan committee three weeks to come up with changes to address the state's $100 billion pension debt, and he is holding them to that deadline.
"When you don't have your work done on time, that is a situation where there are consequences and there will be," said Quinn.
Governor Quinn wouldn't say what those consequences are. The Democrat is sending his budget director to a meeting with the panel in Springfield tomorrow, saying lawmakers already know where he stands on the issue.
As for complaints that they don't have enough time, Quinn points to the expected override of his concealed-carry veto, saying the legislature appears to be acting at lightning speed for the NRA, but not for the pension system.
