Quinn Wants Federal Funds For Post-Blizzard Relief
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CBS) -- Gov. Pat Quinn is asking for federal funding to help pay for the costs of dealing with the blizzard of Feb. 1 and 2.
In a letter to President Barack Obama, Quinn asked Washington to reimburse storm-related expenses for 60 Illinois counties. He estimates that state and local governments spent $64 million on emergency response and cleanup from the blizzard.
Quinn is also asking for money to pay for snow removal costs from 43 counties, including Cook, Will, DuPage and Lake.
If the federal disaster request is approved, local governments might be reimbursed for 75 percent of eligible expenses stemming from the blizzard.
The blizzard dumped more than 20 inches of snow on Chicago – the third largest snow total in history.
