Quinn Visiting Factories, Meeting Dignitaries In Israel
TEL AVIV (CBS) -- Gov. Pat Quinn is spending the week and Israel, in the interest of further developing a relationship for Illinois there.
Quinn says like Illinois, Israel is making key advancements in innovative technologies and the business of tomorrow.
He let for the trip on Monday night, after speaking about his plans earlier in the day at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. Among them will be a visit to a battery-operated car firm called Better Place.
"I'm going to be looking at electric cars that they have that are really trying to provide an alternative to petroleum, so we aren't going to have this $4 or $5-a-gallon gasoline," he said.
Quinn will also stop at the Israeli headquarters of Motorola Solutions, which has its global headquarters based in Schaumburg.
Quinn will also participate in a ceremony at Ben Gurion University at the Negev in Beersheba, where he will sign an academic cooperation agreement on behalf of the University of Illinois, according to the Jewish United Fund of Chicago. The agreement will allow U of I students to study abroad at the university, and will also allow for faculty exchange and joint research projects, the JUF said.
Quinn will also meet with Israeli minister of national infrastructures Dr. Uzi Landau to sign a sister lakes partnership between Lake Michigan and the Israel's Lake Kinneret, also called the Sea of Galilee, according to the JUF.
The JUF is paying for the trip.
