Quinn: No More Free Rides For College Granted By Lawmakers
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Gov. Pat Quinn says enough is enough with a program where politicians are allowed to provide full rides for favored students at Illinois schools.
As WBBM Newsradio's John Cody reports, Illinois lawmakers had been allowed to grant two free rides to students at Illinois colleges and universities.

The program was highlighted when the Chicago Sun-Times found state Sen. Martin Sandoval (D-Cicero) had authorized scholarships for students from out of his district, with all giving the same questionable address within his district.
"We're going to abolish that program. It's time for it to go," Quinn said, "and I think most everybody in Illinois understands that the scholarship program for politicians has been abused too many times."
Quinn says he convinced lawmakers to stop taking their pay all up front each year, and believes they will go along with reserving the scholarship program for needy students.
