CHICAGO (CBS) -- Governor Pat Quinn says the Illinois Gaming Board should have supreme authority over any casino in the City of Chicago, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.
Quinn: Illinois Gaming Board Should Have Oversight Over Chicago Casino
Mayor Emanuel has backed legislation that would establish a Chicago gaming board to oversee a city casino operation. But speaking at a city club luncheon, Governor Quinn said state regulators must have the ultimate power of oversight.
"Chicago historically has some problems with doing things and so it is good to have an independent oversight, namely the Illinois Gaming Board, that has a track record of success. So that is what we are really pushing hard for," said Quinn.
He says he is not backing away from that. He is especially leery of the power the legislation would give the city over construction contracts.
