Quinn Goes Up On Motel Roof To Meet With Pastor
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Gov. Pat Quinn on Monday joined the Rev. Corey Brooks on the roof of a shuttered motel, where pastor has been camping out for two months in an effort to have it turned into a community center.
As WBBM Newsradio's John Cody reports, Quinn was lifted to the roof of the abandoned Super Motel, at 6625 S. King Dr., so he could meet with Brooks.
Once he was on the roof, Quinn joined Brooks in honoring the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
"Today, we honor Dr. King for his stand against economic and social injustices, by continuing to make his dream a reality," Brooks said.
Brooks says he will stay on top of the motel until he raises $450,000 for the community center.
As of earlier this month, Brooks was halfway to his goal of raising the $450,000. More information is available at ProjectHOOD.org.
