Quarterbacks Could Determine If Bears Draft Sherrod
CHICAGO (WSCR) Shortly after the Chicago Bears lost to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game, the front office started evaluating and forming an NFL Draft strategy. On Thursday night that strategy gets put into action.
The most glaring need for the Bears is at offensive line, specifically at left tackle. While this draft class seems to be deep in that position, the league-wide need for tackles is also great.
One of the top tier tackles that the Bears have been connected to for awhile is Mississippi State's Derek Sherrod. But the Bears' chances of landing the 6'6" 305-pounder may be determined by what happens with another position.
"If the quarterbacks don't go [in the first round], I don't see him being there for the Bears," Greg Gabriel, of the National Football Post, said on the Mully and Hanley Show. "Obviously it's a possibility. You know, he's a pretty good player, he has size, he has athletic ability, he's played a lot of football for Mississippi State.

"He's probably not that far away from being ready to play and there's a lot of teams that have a need at tackle. So, again, I think it depends on what happens earlier in the draft with the quarterbacks, if in fact [Sherrod] is going to be there."
Chicago's first pick is at No. 29 overall, so they'll have to wait most of Thursday night to see if one of their desired players will still be available. And here's always a likelihood that the Bears could trade out of the first round, in an effort to add to their six draft picks.
In his latest mock draft, The Score's Adam Hoge has the Bears selecting Stephen Paea, a defensive tackle from Oregon State.
