Quade's Future In Doubt With Hendry Out
(CBS) Left in the wake of Jim Hendry's dismissal as Cubs GM is manager Mike Quade, whose future in Chicago was already in doubt.
Hendry made the decision last year to promote Quade from interim manager to the full-time job and it hasn't paid off as the Cubs sit at 54-70 in mid-August.
Asked Friday about Quade's future with the organization, Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts said the general manager will make the decision on who the manager will be next year, which means it's very likely Quade will be out.
"The general manager will be responsible for the baseball operations," Ricketts said. "That's something we have been pretty consistent about. The general manager makes the decisions. The results are his. He owns them. So you can't second guess them or get between them and their key personnel. They have to be able to have the freedom to hire the people that they are most confident will deliver the results. And obviously in any organization, if you don't do that then there's no grounds to hold them accountable for the outcomes."
Obviously the firing of Hendry is not good news for Quade, but he refused to comment on his future Friday.
"This is not a day for me. I have no time to concern myself with me on a day like this," Quade said. "My future is the furthest thing from my mind on a day like this."
