Quade Named Cubs Manager
CHICAGO (WSCR) - All the speculation surrounding the future manager of the Cubs officially ended Tuesday with the announcement that the team has hired Mike Quade.
The Cubs signed Quade to a two-year contract, along with a club option for 2013.

After taking over the team for Lou Piniella on Aug. 23, Quade was considered a front-runner for the job after leading the Cubs to a 24-13 record to end the season. Other names that had been connected to the opening were former Cubs star Ryne Sandberg and Yankees manager Joe Girardi.

Quade, 53, is the 51st manager in franchise history. Quade as been with the Cubs for eight years, serving as Piniella's third base coach since 2007.
The Chicago area native and graduate of Mt. Prospect High School joined the Cubs organization in 2003 as manager of the Triple-A Iowa club. In 2004, Quade led Iowa to a spot in the League Championship Series.
As a major league manager this season, Quade led the Cubs to a 24-13 mark from Aug. 23 until the end of the season, the second-best record in all of baseball during that span--trailing only the Philadelphia Phillies. The Cubs were 5-20 in their 25 games before Quade took over.
