Puppy-Tossing Driver Could Be Charged

ELMHURST, Ill. (CBS) -- The driver accused of throwing a puppy out of a moving car could face charges Monday.

On Dec. 11, a motorist witnessed the driver of another vehicle throw a dog out as the car sat in traffic, at North Avenue and Route 83 in Elmhurst. The driver who threw the dog then sped off on North Avenue.
The witness, a Chicagoan, said he tried to flag the driver down, but the driver allegedly waved him off.
Now, police found the suspect with the help of the witness, and they say they have talked to the suspect on the phone.
The dog, estimated to be about 8 months old, ran into the parking lot of a nearby fitness center. Staff there cared for the dog until he was taken to an animal hospital.
The dog was not seriously injured, police said Wednesday.
The male dog is a mixed breed, about 45 pounds, and is white with black markings. He is similar in stature to an Australian cattle dog, and very well-tempered.
A hospital representative said the dog remains healthy, and has yet to be given a name.
As of Monday, the dog is not up for adoption -- at least not yet. The case must first be closed.
