Public Policy Expert: Many Voters Don't Seem Interested In Election
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A public policy expert says many voters do not seem interested in this year's presidential election – or politics in general, for that matter.
As WBBM Newsradio Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports, David Yepsen, head of the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University, says not just that this year, there is no real history to be made in the new president as there was four years ago. He says many voters feel politics are not relevant to their lives.
That finding stands even with a lagging economy and high unemployment, he says.
"People are turned off by politics today. It's just so much yada, yada, yada, and it doesn't speak to the problems in their lives," Yepsen said. "Getting a job, getting health care – they've heard these promises before, and they've not been delivered upon.
Yepsen says there is still time to get interested. The debates are still ahead, and he says the candidates can make the case for relevance.
