Public Gets Glimpse Of Changes For Circle Interchange
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The public got a glimpse on Thursday of some of the ideas being considered to ease congestion at the Chicago Circle Interchange.
The area, also known as the "spaghetti bowl", is where the Kennedy, Dan Ryan and Eisenhower expressways all converge--along with Congress Parkway.
Federal officials say it's one of the worst bottleneck in the country. On average, there are three accidents a day on that stretch of roadway.
Some of the ideas being looked at include adding lanes and widening ramps to building a tunnel under existing infrastructure.
There is still no timetable for construction, and the Illinois Department of Transportation is hoping most of the project will be funded by federal tax dollars.
