Prosecutors: Alleged Kidnapper Was Obsessed With Children

(CBS) – DuPage County authorities say a jailed West Chicago man was obsessed with children and criminal cases in which young people were victimized.

Police say they saw Guiseppe Ressa, 34, attempt to kidnap two children in Addison on Monday as he was under surveillance. After authorities intervened, the 34-year-old was charged with three counts of aggravated kidnapping, three counts of child abduction and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Material police found in Ressa's possession was disturbing, CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports.

Authorities say they found notes and journals in which Ressa obsessed over high-profile criminal cases. They found a book entitled "A Guide to Pedophilia."

"All of us in law enforcement got in to stop these types of people," Lisle Police Chief Dave Anderson told reporters at a news conference Thursday.

Ressa allegedly attempted to abduct children in that western suburb late last month.

A judge ordered Ressa held without bond.

He was previously arrested for disorderly conduct in 2004.
