Proposed Bills On Teens, Tanning Face Debate In Springfield
CHICAGO (WBBM) - Two bills in the Springfield hopper are not likely to make teenagers looking for a golden tan happy.
Under the measures -- tanning parlors would be forbidden from allowing Illinois teens between the ages of 14 and 17 to use their equipment.
Currently, teenagers in that group are permitted to tan with a parent's permission.
The bills are sponsored by Chicago Senator Ira Silverstein and Evanston Representative Robyn Gabel. Her bill is facing floor debate after passing out of the Human Services Committee this past week.
The Indoor Tanning Association says the bills are an "intrusion of government in our daily lives."
