Pritzker Reluctant To Criticize Madigan On Harassment Report
CHICAGO (AP) - Gov. J.B. Pritzker is praising the release of a report on bullying and harassment in Michael Madigan's office, but is sidestepping questions about Illinois House speaker's leadership.
Pritzker said the culture of sexual harassment exists in Springfield on both sides of the aisle. He added that is "a very positive thing that these things have come to light."
The report ordered by former state executive inspector general Maggie Hickey and released focused on three allegations of sexual misconduct or intimidation. It found sufficient evidence to back up one complaint that Madigan's now-resigned chief of staff Timothy Mapes made inappropriate sexual comments and intimidated employees .
Pritzker says the report detailed "a special kind of harassment and intimidation from Tim Mapes." But when asked if putting Mapes in positions of power reflects poorly on the speaker's judgment, Pritzker answered it depended on what Madigan knew.
