Prisoner Tries To Escape On Way To Bond Court, Shot By Police
ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (STMW) - A prisoner who was being taken to a bond hearing Saturday morning in northwest suburban Rolling Meadows was shot by police after trying to escape.
About 8:10 a.m. an Elgin police officer was en route to a bond call transporting a prisoner and while northbound on Route 53 near Algonquin Road the prisoner escaped, Elgin Police Cmdr. Glenn Theriault said.
"A shooting occurred," and the prisoner was wounded, Theriault said. The prisoner has been hospitalized, but a condition was not immediately available. The officer was not shot but was also taken to a hospital, Theriault said.
Illinois State Police are leading the investigation into the incident because it happened on a state roadway and because it was a police-involved shooting.
