Prisoner Charged With Soliciting Girl, 13
WOODSTOCK, Ill. (CBS) -- A 22-year-old Oswego man now is charged with soliciting a 13-year-old girl, after already going to jail for giving another man heroin that resulted in a deadly overdose.
Mark Seranella was arrested in Crystal Lake on May 7 of last year, in the 2007 death of Ryan Maxwell, 18 at the time, who had died at a friend's apartment from a heroin overdose.
After a lengthy investigation, police discovered that Seranella had given Maxwell the heroin that killed him, in exchange for a guitar. Seranella was already on parole for burglary and a weapons offense at the time, police said.
Seranella was charged with drug-induced homicide, but later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to four years in prison.
While being held at the McHenry County Jail before pleading guilty, police found that before he went to jail, Seranella had been having explicit conversations with a 13-year-old girl. It turned out that Seranella had engaged in sex acts with the young girl, and that at least five times, he had asked her to perform sex acts on him after he was released.
This resulted in five new counts of indecent solicitation of a child. He must return to McHenry County from prison at the Logan Correctional Center downstate to answer the new charges on April 25.
