Principal Eats Worm After Students Reach Book Quota
WOODRIDGE, Ill. (CBS) -- To the delight of the students at a Woodridge elementary school, their principal ate a worm today to fulfill a promise.
The promise was this: If students at Goodrich School read a certain number of books, the principal would eat a worm.

"You know, you add a little hot sauce to anything and you're in good shape. It wasn't that bad."
Principal Paul Scaletta says the worm came from a bait shop. And it was fried. We wondered if eating a worm fried was cheating a little bit.
"Yeah, I suppose it is. But I think I would've preferred it not fried. That way I wouldn't have to chew it. I maybe could've gone right down the hatch with it."
Scaletta says the vision of him scarfing down a worm follows last year's reading incentive: Scaletta kissing a pig.
And he says he would agree that reading a book is its own reward.
"But there's no harm in adding fun to the operation of a school."
What will he do next year to get students to read?
"That's the million-dollar question that everybody's asking."
