Some at the fest felt the mood was dampened because of the state's inability to pass a gay marriage bill.
"I think this festival would have stepped it up a notch had it passed. I think there is a little bit an an edge, a little bit of an angst that it didn't pass and there is a bit of confusion as to why," said Steven Stachowichz.
Tom Elliott from the Center on Halsted says the bill's failure to receive a vote in Springfield may lead to even more support the next time the bill comes up.
"I think that a lot of people assume that marriage is going to happen and I think more people are willing to come out now and really speak out on behalf of marriage equality because apparently it is not as certain as originally thought," said Elliott.
Advocates say they have expanded their coalition to include more people and organizations in the meantime.
