Presidential Stage Is Set For Final Debate
(CBS) -- In less than two hours, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will face off for their third and final presidential debate. And both of them seem ready to double down on themes they've featured throughout the campaign, CBS 2 Political Reporter Derrick Blakley reports.
The presidential debate stage is set. And with the election just 20 days away, the repercussions from what happens in Vegas, won't stay in Vegas.
"Trump has had a very bad October, and he's losing the states he needs to win, so he's either going to be presidential or he's going to double down," Northwestern University Associate Professor Craig LaMay says.
In his latest television ad today, Donald Trump does double down, but on immigration.
It's another appeal to Trump's blue collar base that polls show is now shrinking. In the latest poll, Hillary Clinton holds a 9 point lead over Trump.
"My vision of America is a vision where everyone has a place," she says in her new ad. Clinton calls for making college affordable, making the economy work for the middle class, while trying to heal the country.
LaMay, who is also the associate dean of journalism at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, has written a book about the presidential debates.
"She's going to get asked about the Wikileaks stuff. She has to address that in some serious way and she has to stop campaigning and show us what it would be be like to govern," Le May says. "She has to look beyond the campaign."
