President, Family Attend Chicago Wedding
CHICAGO (CBS) – It was the wedding of the year in Chicago, and one of the guests was the president of the United States.
President Barack Obama wore a tan suit and light-colored tie Saturday evening as he walked with his family – wife, Michelle, daughters Sasha and Malia, and mother-in-law Marian Robinson – to the wedding of Laura Jarrett, the daughter of senior White House adviser Valerie Jarrett.
The Obamas walked a block from their rarely used Kenwood home to the wedding at the Jarrett family home.
Laura Jarrett is marrying Tony Balkissoon. Both Harvard law grads practice law in Chicago.
"I grew up down the block and it's wonderful to come back home and celebrate Laura's extraordinary wedding," family friend John Rogers said.
Not surprisingly, security was tight in and around the neighborhood, even for wedding guests. Among those in attendance was U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.
The Obamas were in town for Father's Day weekend. The First Family flew into Chicago Friday. The president and first lady were expected to depart Sunday for separate appearances.
