Martin Huerta Jr. was due today, Dec. 22. But he was instead born three months early on Sept. 3 at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

Martin weighed in at just 1 pound 3 ounces, and was given just a 50-50 chance of survival.

But Martin's neo-natologist says after one heart operation, and what she calls several death-defying incidents, the baby boy now weighs five pounds and is healthy enough to go home to his parents and two older sisters in time for the holidays.

Dr. Jeanette Hoenig says Martin is something of a miracle.

"For a premature baby of his age, he has done very well," she said.
