Pregnant Woman Killed In Crash On Indiana Toll Road
CHICAGO (STMW) -- An intoxicated pregnant woman died Tuesday afternoon after she lost control of her Jeep on the Indiana Toll Road and it flipped over multiple times.
Leslie D. Thompson, 34, was driving west on the Toll Road about 1 p.m. in the far right lane when she tried switching into the middle lane, according to a release from Indiana State Police.
At the same time, a vehicle in the far left lane began moving into the middle lane, the release said. Thompson "jerked" her car to the right in order to avoid hitting the other vehicle, but she lost control of her Jeep, which rolled over multiple times, the release said, adding that no vehicles were hit.
Thompson, who was wearing a seatbelt, had to be "extricated" from the Jeep, the release said. She was taken to North Lake Methodist Hospital in Gary, Ind., where she was later pronounced dead, the release said. She tested positive for alcohol, the release said, adding that Thompson was in her first trimester of pregnancy.
Two other passengers in the Jeep with Thompson were also taken to Methodist Hospital. A 43-year-old man suffered a laceration to his head and broken ribs, and a 33-year-old woman had lacerations, the release said.
