Preckwinkle has told the other elected county officials--like the Court Clerk and Treasurer--that they must cut their budgets by 21 percent.
Officials at the Public Defenders office, which is constitutionally mandated to represent the poor, feared they might face a big budget cut too. But Preckwinkle says, not necessarily so.
She says some of the departments under her control will get only minor budget cuts. But others, that are staff heavy might be cut more extensively.
Preckwinkle is this week's guest on WBBM's "At Issue" program. You can hear more of her comments Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m.
