Preckwinkle Plans Overhaul Of County Hospital Board
CHICAGO (CBS) -- It's not exactly a clean sweep of the board that runs the County's Health and Hospitals System, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle is hoping to win Board approval for an overhaul of that panel.
As WBBM Newsrasdio Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports, Preckwinkle chose not to reappoint original Hospitals Board chairman Warren Batts, and director David Ansell.
Former health systems chief Ruth Rothstein and Sister Sheila Lyne, chief executive officer of Mercy Hospital and Medical Center are also leaving, along with board member Benn Greenspan.
Preckwinkle has most of the other potential replacements lined up.
"What I decided to do was, given the fact that there were six – at that time, seven members of the board who would be going on, that I would make some changes and try to bring in a crew of people who were more diverse, and who brought a different set of skills and experiences and expertise to the board," Preckwinkle said.
Preckwinkle gives a strong vote of confidence to health system chief executive officer Dr. Ramanathan Raju, although he was not her first choice for the job.
