Powerball Jackpot Balloons To $675 Million
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Powerball jackpot has skyrocketed to a record $675 million, after no one bought a winning ticket for Wednesday night's drawing.
If taken as a lump sum payment, a winner would get $413.1 million.
Already the largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history, the pot could grow even larger by the time of the next drawing on Saturday night.
The previous largest Powerball jackpot was $590.5 million, won by Gloria MacKenzie of Florida. The previous largest overall lottery jackpot was a $656 million Mega Millions game split by three winners in March 2012, including Merle and Patricia Butler, of Red Bud, Illinois, who took home a $218.67 million share, the largest prize in Illinois Lottery history.
