Pot-Laced Brownies Send Five Students To Hospital In Evanston
EVANSTON (STMW) -- Five north suburban high school students were hospitalized recently after eating brownies laced with large amounts of marijuana.
Evanston Township High School has disclosed that the students became ill after eating the brownies, which a student baked and brought to school.

"It appears the students knew what they were eating," school administrators said in a letter scheduled to go out Wednesday. "Eating drug-laced foods can result in illness and overdoses."
The warning encourages parents to talk to their kids about the dangers of drug use.
"I'm just going to tell her about what I read and tell her not to take any brownies or anything that she doesn't know where it came from or who made it," parent Noelle Brill told CBS 2's Roseanne Tellez.
Student Ariana Valverde said "I was really surprised, the fact that they actually had to go to the hospital for that. … It's alarming."
"They're very well educated by my daughter and by us not to go into any drugs or try any of that stuff," an Evanston High School grandmother said. "They eat brownies, but I make them."
Students said the incident was the topic of conversation on campus on Wednesday.
One teenager was charged with possession of marijuana.
Evanston police continue to investigate the matter, and the students face disciplinary sanctions for breaking school rules. If they are athletes or participate in extracurricular activities, additional penalties will apply.
Parents are urged to speak to students about drug use and caution them about accepting homemade baked goods from others.
