Post Office Suspends Service To Area After Carrier Is Attacked
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An attack on a Chicago postal carrier has stopped mail delivery in one area of the Logan Square neighborhood.
"The post office lady was delivering her mail, and our neighbors have a poodle, a little dog, and the dog was running in and out of the gate because she's small enough to do so, and she was barking," said Marco Moreno, of the 3200 block of West North Avenue.
Moreno said the postal worker pepper sprayed the dog, and then its owners came out and attacked her.
"They started to wrestle, fight, scratch each other and pull each other's hair."
Laurentina Espadas, 30, was arrested for the attack and charged with misdemeanor battery. Mark Reynolds with the Postal Service said the worker suffered a neck injury.
The attack happened last Friday in the 3200 block of West North Avenue. People in the area said they understand the safety concerns, but want the service to resume after a week of no mail delivery.
Reynolds said for now, customers in the area will have to go to the post office at California and Fullerton to pick up their mail.
