South suburban Chicago carnival shut down due to large fight, police say
POSEN, Ill. (CBS) -- A carnival in south suburban Posen was cut short Sunday evening due to a large fight, according to the Posen Police Department.
A fight broke out around 6 p.m. Sunday at Posen Park Fest, and continued for almost two hours. Police made several arrests in connection to the incident, and shut down the carnival due to safety concerns.
Neighbors were asked to avoid the carnival grounds near 147th and Sacramento. Now all of the vendors have moved out.
Several arrests were made in connection with the fight.
Police said it was a "difficult decision to shut it down for the safety of all attendees."
This comes days after a similar disturbance was reported at the carnival.
On May 30, police were called to the Posen Carnival after reports of an incident involving 20 juveniles. Police said a loaded handgun was recovered from a backpack and the juvenile responsible was charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon.
After the initial incident, police reminded carnival-goers of bag checks and face mask rules.
The Posen Park District said it will reassess how the event is run moving forward.
