Video Shows Man Robbing Woman In Store At Gunpoint
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police have released frightening video of an armed man robbing a store clerk in Porter, Ind.
At approximately 9:40 p.m. Monday, the Porter Police Department was dispatched to Zip Foods after the robbery.
In the surveillance video, a man aims a handgun at a female store clerk and orders her to open the cash register.
The suspect was wearing a black hoodie type shirt with distinct bright green stripes.
"Male subject entered the store rather rapidly. Again, with a hoodie up over his head, bandanna covering all the way up to his eyes. Pointed a gun at her. Ordered that she open the register. Then also ordered that she helped pull the money out of register and literally within probably 60-70 seconds, he was out the door," said Lt. John Lane, Porter Police Department.
Lieutenant Lane said crimes like this are rare in Porter.
"We just don't see any type of crime with guns and violent crime is really low here," he said.
No one was injured and it's unclear which direction the suspect fled, police said.
A detective handling the case told CBS 2 that thanks to tips from the community they believe they have identified the man they are looking for and are now in the process of locating him.
The suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of money. Police are not releasing the name of the man they are looking for right now, based on the tips from the community, but they are working on securing a warrant for his arrest.
