Popular Brunch Spot Near Loyola Closes Its Doors
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A popular brunch and dinner spot on Granville Avenue in Edgewater has closed its doors after less than three years in business.
Bananas Foster Café, at 1147 W. Granville Ave., posted an announcement on its Facebook page last week that it had "closed (its) doors for good."
The announcement that the restaurant had closed drew about two dozen comments, from one patron who called Bananas Foster her "favorite breakfast place around (the Loyola) campus," and another who wrote to the owners, 'You guys are amazing, make delicious food and always put a smile on my face."
The restaurant opened in February 2009 at the southeast corner of Granville Avenue and Broadway in the space previously occupied by the Café du Monde (later Trivoli) coffee shop.
A review in the Edgeville buzz blog said Bananas Foster featured "an extensive menu with some decidedly British leanings," and a casual atmosphere "full of natural light."
The team members at the restaurant all came from the Edgewater neighborhood, according to the restaurant's Web site. They invited customers to discuss "things you like, things you don't, basic neighborhood gossip, the usuaul stuff," and even suggest favorite dishes they wanted added to the menu.
